Personal Auto Insurance

Automobile insurance provides you with important financial protection against losses and potential liability incurred as a result of an automobile accident. The professionals at Tetrault Insurance will help you understand the elements of your automobile insurance policy and choose the right coverage for your individual needs. As you select coverage options, review these Twelve Key Areas of Protection to guide you through the required and optional coverage choices in Massachusetts.

  1. Bodily Injury to Others pays for damages (e.g. medical expenses, pain and suffering) to anyone injured or killed by your car only in an accident that occurs in Massachusetts, up to basic limit of $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident.
  2. Personal Injury Protection (PIP) pays up to $8,000 to you or anyone you let drive your car, anyone living in your household, passengers and pedestrians, no matter who causes the accident. PIP pays for medical expenses, replacement services and 75% of any lost wages.NOTE: PIP covers owners of cars and motorcycles, and members of their households, if they are injured while occupying or struck by a car that does not have Massachusetts Compulsory Insurance.
  3. Bodily Injury Caused by an Uninsured Auto protects you, anyone you let drive your car, household members and passengers (unless covered by another Massachusetts policy with similar coverage) against losses caused by an uninsured or unidentified (“hit and run”) driver. A minimum limit of $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident is required. This coverage does not pay for property damage or damage to your auto.
  4. Damage to Someone Else’s Property pays for damage to another person’s property and costs associated with the loss of use of that property, when you, a household member or another authorized driver cause an accident. A minimum limit of $5,000 is required.
  5. Optional Bodily Injury to Others is an optional coverage which extends your liability protection (the basic $20,000/$40,000 limits under Bodily Injury to Others) up to the amount you purchase under this part. This option provides coverage for accidents beyond Massachusetts to anywhere in the United States, its territories or possessions, or Canada. This coverage also pays for damages suffered by guests in your auto.
  6. Medical Payments is an optional coverage for medical expenses for you, your household members and passengers, over and above amounts covered by Personal Injury Protection (PIP) no matter who caused the accident. The minimum amount you can buy is $5,000 if insuring an automobile and $500 if insuring a motorcycle.
  7. Collision coverage pays for damage to your car, less any applicable deductible, no matter who causes the accident. If your car is financed, your lender may require this coverage as well as a particular deductible amount.
  8. Limited Collision pays for collision damage to your car. You must not be more than 50% at fault, and the owner of the other vehicle must be identified.
  9. Comprehensive coverage pays for damage to or loss of your car, less any applicable deductible, resulting from perils such as fire, theft, vandalism, and striking an animal, but not collision. This coverage allows up to $15 per day (to a limit of $450) for substitute transportation (rental or other transportation costs including taxi, bus, and train fare) until your stolen auto is recovered.
  10. Substitute Transportation coverage reimburses up to $15 a day for car rental or transportation costs including taxi, bus, and train fare (up to $450), while your car is undergoing collision or covered repairs. Coverage of up to $100 a day (up to a limit of $3,000) is available for an additional cost.
  11. Towing and Labor coverage pays up to $50 for towing and labor charges each time your car breaks down whether or not there is an accident involved. You are covered only for the on-site labor costs at the breakdown site (not any parts) needed to get your car running again. Coverage up to $100 per disablement is available for an additional cost.
  12. Bodily Injury Caused By An Underinsured Auto pays for bodily injury damages to you, household members and passengers, unless they have a policy of their own, or are covered by a Massachusetts auto policy of another household member with similar coverage. It pays you up to the difference between the total amount collected from the bodily injury liability insurance covering the owner and driver of the other car, and the limits you purchased for this coverage.

Homeowner's Insurance Policy

TIA_homeowners-policy

A standard homeowner’s insurance policy includes four essential types of coverage.

  1. Coverage for the structure of your home
This pays to repair or rebuild your home if it is damaged or destroyed by fire, hurricane, hail, lightning or other disaster listed in your policy. Please note: this part of your policy will not pay for damage caused by a flood, earthquake or routine wear and tear.
  2. Coverage for your personal belongings
Your furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other personal items are covered if they are stolen or destroyed by fire, hurricane or other insured disaster. Expensive items like jewelry, furs and silverware are covered, but you may want to consider adding an endorsement to your policy to protect more expensive items.
  3. Liability protection
Liability covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage that you or family members cause to other people. It also pays for damage caused by your pets. The liability portion of your policy pays for both the cost of defending you in court and any court awards. It covers up to the limit of your policy. You are also covered not just in your home, but anywhere.
  4. Additional living expenses
This pays the additional costs of living away from home if you can’t live there due to damage from a fire, storm or other insured disaster. It covers hotel bills, restaurant meals and other living expenses incurred while your home is being rebuilt.

Renter's Insurance

TIA_renters-insurance

Renter’s insurance is an important coverage that is both necessary and affordable. As a renter, you face the same risk of loss or damage to your personal belongings as a homeowner - accidents do not differentiate between rented buildings and owned homes. Though your landlord may have insurance, your personal belongings will not be protected. Your renter’s policy includes:

  • Coverage for your personal belongings
Your furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other personal items are covered if they are stolen or destroyed by fire, hurricane or other insured disaster. Expensive items like jewelry, furs and silverware are covered, but you may want to consider adding an endorsement to your policy to protect more expensive items.
  • Liability protection
Liability covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage that you or family members cause to other people. It also pays for damage caused by your pets. The liability portion of your policy pays for both the cost of defending you in court and any court awards. It covers up to the limit of your policy. You are also covered not just in your home, but anywhere.

Condominium Insurance

A condominium policy provides coverage from damage, theft, fire or vandalism as well as personal liability coverage to protect you from a lawsuit in the event someone is hurt in your unit. Although your condominium association will have insurance, these policies only offer coverage for the building structure and complex grounds. Your personal condominium policy offers:

  • Full replacement coverage
This is full replacement coverage if your unit is destroyed beyond repair and protection from damages including plumbing, vandalism, malicious mischief, sewer and drain backup.
  • Coverage for your personal belongings
Your furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other personal items are covered if they are stolen or destroyed by fire, hurricane or other insured disaster. Expensive items like jewelry, furs and silverware are covered, but there are generally limits. You may want to consider adding an endorsement to your policy to protect more expensive items.
  • Liability protection
Liability covers you against exposures and medical expenses if someone is injured on your property.
  • Additional living expenses
This pays for expenses incurred if you are unable to live in your home due to a covered claim.

Umbrella Insurance Policy

Some umbrellas protect you more than others. Umbrella policies provide an important extra layer of protection that further shields your assets from potential liabilities. Umbrella policies can protect you if the worst happens.
What if you or a family member severely injures someone in an automobile accident and you’re at fault?

Will your insurance limits protect your family? Umbrella policies provide coverage for unexpected personal liability claims over and above the limits available from your underlying policies. They pick up where your other insurance policies leave off. Umbrella insurance can add an additional $1-5 million in liability protection inexpensively.

Flood Insurance

TIA_flood-insurance

Walk to the nearest mirror and ask the person you see if he or she owns much property that could be damaged or destroyed by water. If the answer is yes, then you should seriously consider buying flood insurance.

We offer flood insurance to homeowners, renters and business owners alike. You can purchase a policy from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through us.

What’s The Likelihood Of Suffering a Flood Loss?
The chances of your business, home or personal property being damaged by a flood depends primarily upon where you live, in addition to these other factors:

  • how much of a flood warning you receive
  • the level of flood precautions you take (such as moving personal property from lower levels to higher levels), and
  • the precautions taken by your community (such as the use of flood controls in construction standards or sandbagging threatened areas).

Since floods are related to weather conditions and tend to affect very wide areas, your chances of a flood loss may be higher than a loss from fires or windstorms. Many people have the obsolete belief that flood insurance is only needed if you live in a flood prone area.

I Live In A Flood Zone?!
If you have ever heard the term “flood zone,” you may think that it refers to locations that are particularly vulnerable to flooding. Wherever you live in the USA, you live in a flood zone. While your area may have a lower chance of flooding than a coastal area or a location situated near a body of water, your area could still experience flooding. Towns in our area that are susceptible to flooding include New Bedford, Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester and Lakeville.

A very dry part of the country can be susceptible to flash floods; hilly locations may be harmed by drainage; snowy locations may suffer from heavy snow thaw; other areas may suffer deluges or flooding due to a heavy rain season which has soaked the surrounding soil. So, if you’ve insured yourself against fire, wind and other causes of loss, it certainly makes sense to also protect yourself from the potential of a flood loss.

Why Worry When Disaster Coverage Is Available?
You may believe that, even if you suffer from a flood, your loss may be taken care of when the government declares your location to be a disaster area. However, you’re still taking a couple of large risks. First, your flooded locale may not be deemed a disaster area. Second, being designated as a disaster area is not a bargain. Disaster area status only gives citizens access to government disaster loans. IF you qualify for assistance, you have replaced insurance protection with an obligation to pay off a large, long-term loan. Is it worthwhile to gamble on an opportunity to pick up more debt? You’ll find flood insurance to be a cheaper and much more valuable alternative.

Don’t Be “All Wet”
You don’t have to leave yourself unprotected. As insurance professionals, we can help you with detailed information on the National Flood Insurance Program. You can also ask for help in getting the coverage you need to “keep dry” and secure in the face of a flood.

Life & Disability Insurance

Life Insurance
Life insurance may be one of the most important purchases you will ever make. In the event of a tragedy, life insurance proceeds can help pay the bills, continue a family business, finance future needs like your children’s education, protect your spouse’s retirement plans, and much more. Life insurance policies are designed with different needs in mind. Whether you are looking for temporary protection, estate planning, or cash accumulation, there is a life insurance plan that is right for you.

  • Term Insurance
Term insurance is designed to meet temporary needs. It provides protection for a specific period of time (the “term”) and generally pays a benefit only if you die during the term. This type of insurance often makes sense when you have a need for coverage that will disappear at a specific point in time.
  • Permanent Insurance
In contrast, permanent insurance provides lifelong protection. As long as you pay the premiums, and no loans, withdrawals or surrenders are taken, the full face amount will be paid. Because it is designed to last a lifetime, permanent life insurance accumulates cash value and is priced for you to keep over a long period of time.

Disability Insurance
When you get injured or become ill and are unable to work disability insurance is there to provide you with income. We've got you covered for all types of disability insurance. For more information about these products, please contact our office and one of our helpful agents can assist you.

  • Short Term Disability
  • Long Term Disability
  • Long Term Care Insurance
